The focus of my work here in Brazil has been on the agricultural commodities
business and the emergence of Brazil as a primary global food exporter. As the only
major producer located in the tropics, the transformation taking place here will
have vast implications for expanding agriculture in other underutilized places
of the world like Africa. A growing world population continues to drive demand for
fuel, animal feed, and bio fuels in a time when farmland acreage in developed countries
is flat or falling.
